EKU5 Surge Protection Devices (SPDs)
Iron Side Electrical & Automations brings you the EKU5 ETEK range of reliable DIN rail-mounted SPDs for AC and DC applications. Available in Class 1 and Class 2, these devices handle surge currents from 40kA to 60kA, making them ideal for both industrial and commercial use.
What is an SPD?
SPDs protect electrical systems and equipment from voltage spikes caused by lightning or switching surges. They safely divert excess energy to ground, preventing costly damage and downtime.
Why High kA Rating?
A higher kA rating means greater surge-handling capacity. With 40kA or more, EKU5 ETEK SPDs ensure durable protection even in high-risk environments.
Class 1 vs Class
Type 2 AC Surge Protective Device – EKU5-T2-40
The EKU5-T2-40 is a Type 2/Class II AC Surge Protective Device (SPD) designed to protect electrical systems from transient over-voltages. With a maximum discharge current (Imax) of 40kA, it offers reliable protection for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
This model features remote signaling support and incorporates advanced tripping and breaking technology for enhanced performance and safety. The pluggable design allows for quick and easy installation or replacement.
Key Features:

-
Surge Capacity: Imax 40kA (8/20 µs waveform)
-
Type: Class II
-
Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (Uc):275V, 385V, 440V AC
-
Design: Pluggable module for easy maintenance
-
Additional Feature: Remote signaling capability for status monitoring
Type 2 DC Surge Protective Device – EKU5-T2-40 PV
The EKU5-T2-40 PV is a Class II / Type 2 DC Surge Protective Device specifically engineered for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. With a high surge capacity of 40kA, it safeguards PV systems against overvoltage caused by lightning or other transient events.
Designed for use in DC networks up to 1500V, this SPD offers common and differential mode protection, ensuring system safety and longevity.
For optimal protection, installation is recommended at both ends of the DC power line—on the solar panel side and the inverter/converter side, particularly in systems with long or externally routed cables.
Key Features:
-
Application: Solar PV systems (DC networks)
-
Surge Capacity: Imax 40kA (8/20 µs waveform)
-
Max. Continuous Operating Voltage (Uc): Up to 1500V DC
-
Type: Class II / Type 2 SPD
-
Protection Modes: Common and differential
-
Installation: Parallel connection at both ends of the DC line.
